Vienna Christmas Markets

The weekend after Murilo and I went to Dublin (and Jess, who had come to Germany to visit, had visited her friend in London), Jess and I went to Vienna with some friends from school. We were tired at the beginning of the trip and were exhausted by the end!!
We arrived 3 hours late on Friday night but caught the last shuttle bus into the city. Saturday morning, we visited our first market at the Schönbrunn Castle. Jess and stayed and toured the castle afterwards.

After the castle, we visited a couple of other Christmas markets - there are many!

We were both "marketed" out by the end of the trip! This one was our favorite (Spittelberg).

Only in Vienna - a toilet where you can listen to opera music!

Outside the Spanish Riding School where the famous Lipizzaner Stallions and their riders are trained. We went to a show there on Sunday morning with Nan and Greg Williams (he is a science teacher at the high school).

Inside the riding school.

The performance/practice arena.

Photos were not allowed during the performance. However, after we left, Jess and I went in search of a cafe (for some cappuccino and famous torte) and happened upon the horses for the next performance being led into the building. We both commented on how well these horses are treated - they are beautiful.

Trying out the auto timer on the new camera! It took us several tries - Jess was very patient with me :)

This advertisement for an exhibit reminded me of one of Lorene's cards!! I could just imagine the kids saying something like "Oh brother, can't you guys get a room for once?"
